Nike has sold out all of its Kobe Bryant merchandise online despite concerns it was removed after his death on Sunday.
Shoppers are now directed to a tribute page and a statement from the company when they search for the basketball star’s trainers and jerseys on the website. Nike dismissed reports that products were pulled from their website to stop resellers from profiting after Bryant’s death in a helicopter crash.
Bryant was one of the biggest basketball players to sign on with Nike, inking an endorsement deal in 2003 and the sports company has been releasing Kobe sneakers ever since.
A statement on the website reads: “Along with millions of athletes and fans throughout the world, we are devastated by today’s tragic news. We extend our deepest sympathies to those closest to Kobe and Gianna, especially their family and friends. As we are learning more details of the accident and the others who have tragically lost their lives, our heartfelt sympathies go out to everyone involved and impacted. Kobe was one of the greatest athletes of his generation and has had an immeasurable impact on the world of sport and the community of basketball. He was a beloved member of the Nike family. We will miss him greatly. Mamba forever.”
