Joining the rest of the world to celebrate Children’s Day, Nigerians have taken to social media to reminisce their growing up.
The theme for the 2021 International Children’s Day, ‘Unite to reverse the impact of COVID-19 pandemic on children’, is instructive as it calls for more concerted efforts from the government in partnership with the private sector, in addressing the issues of poverty, malnutrition, poor infrastructure for learning and insecurity.President Buhari and Children at the 2021 World Children DayTaking to Twitter, #EndSARS activist Segun Awosanya, popularly known as Segalink said he now suffers a psychological condition as a result of the spanking he received as a child. “My parents spanked me as a child. As a result I now suffer from a psychological condition known as “Respect for Others”, he tweeted, however, stirring a controversy on the bird app.

“A lot of things I would have done as a child but when I remembered the previous spanking I respect myself , so spanking is good and it reset the brain. Rest in peace mum and dad”, @Mamatee20161075 wrote. “I am happy I was spanked with ‘muchiya’ the stick used for turning swallow on the fire. I don’t spare my son cos I am a product of good spanking that made me responsible in life. Above all I learnt to take responsibility for my actions instead of blaming others”, @FatimaDabo1 said.
