The Felabration event which was billed to hold at the Notting Hill Carnival yesterday, in London has been canceled due to license expiration. The event was set up to mark the 20th anniversary of the death of Afrobeat legend, Fela Anikulapo Kuti. However it did not hold because the organizers of felaberation failed to secure a license for the event. A security personnel at the venue had said that “the licence to hold a live performance expired on the preceding day.” Reacting to the situation, Femi Kuti said: “we trusted people who live in the UK and are supposed to know the rules but they let us down and we can’t even find them to tell us the truth. We have learnt a big lesson but we assure all lovers of Felabration that next year will be stronger and better.” A member of Fela’s management team had spoken on the issue saying that the organizers should have processed the license six months prior to the event. Another member of the team who seemed to have been favored by the situation said, “l’m glad I’m going to Lagos for the proper Felabration in October.” Photo Credit: Getty
