11 Nigerian Governors Who Have Not Taken The COVID-19 Vaccine

The Oxford AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine arrived in Nigeria on Tuesday 2nd March, 2021 and we welcomed with a reception party thrown by the Federal Government in Abuja.
President Buhari, VP Osinbajo, SGF Boss Mustapha, SSA Gaarba Shehu and a few other top officials got their own jabs second, following an Abuja doctor Ngong Cyprian who was the first person to take the jab in Nigeria.
Many other Governors have followed suit, including Governors Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State and Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State, alongside their Deputies, Secretaries and other top officials. No fewer than 11 state governors are, however, yet to publicly take the COVID-19 vaccine jab after taking delivery of their consignments from the National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA).

These Governors are:
1. Seyi Makinde (Oyo State)
2. Nyesom Wike (Rivers State): Meanwhile, Gov. Wike’s aide was seen getting his own jab in the early hours of Monday. He had insisted on seeing the carton of COVID-19 vaccine before he could take the jab.
3. Ben Ayade (Cross River State)
4. Udom Emmanuel (Akwa Ibom)
5. Samuel Ortom (Benue State)
6. Bello Matawalle (Zamfara State)
7. Yahaya Bello (Kogi State): Yahaya is insistent on not taking the vaccine. He added that he wouldn’t allow the people of Kogi take the vaccine either, as he cannot watch them being used as pigs.
8. Douye Diri (Bayelsa State)
9. Atiku Bagudu (Kebbi State)
10. Darius Ishaku (Taraba State) and
11. Mai Mala Buni (Yobe State)
Meanwhile, the Nigerian Governors’ Forum has certified the vaccine safe for use and effective for prevention of the dreaded COVID-19. The Southwestern members of the NGF backed the continuous roll out and use of the AstraZeneca vaccine after Germany, Italy, France and other countries, including Sweden have all temporarily suspended the use.

This is as a result of the reports that those who got a dose in Denmark and Norway developed blood clots. The NGF, however, insisted it id s  safe for use in Nigeria since none of such reports have been gotten from those who already took the jabs.Dapo Abiodun takes Vaccination
In its briefing, CTAG recommended that Nigeria should continue to vaccinate all eligible persons with the vaccine in line with the latest recommendations of the World Health Organisation (WHO).

The governors, in their response, reiterated their belief in the safety of the AstraZeneca vaccine and agreed to continuously encourage uptake of the vaccines by all eligible persons in their states.
