Tragedy of death has struck again and this time, it is the football world losing one of its great younsters in his prime. British-Nigerian Samuel Oji is dead! The English professional footballer who played as a centre back had passed away at the age of 35.
Samuel Oji had been ill and just on Friday, 27th August, Highgate United, where he was until his death the Assistant Manager, had released as statement saying he was extremely ill but was still fighting like the warrior that he is. The club, however, published another statement announcing his death. “It is with a very heavy heart that I am deeply saddened to inform you that our beloved Captain, Leader and Legend Samuel Oji has sadly passed away”, the club wrote.

Following his death, his former clubs have paid him their tributes. Birmingham City FC tweeted, “The Club is devastated to hear of the passing of former player Sam Oji, aged 35. The thoughts of everyone at #BCFC are with Sam’s family and friends at this extremely difficult time”.

Leyton Orient also said it was “deeply saddened to learn the news” of his death, adding “Rest in peace, Sam”. Former Aston Villa player Lee Hendrie, who played with Samuel Oji at Tamworth between 2012 and 2013 also paid tribute to his former team-mate. “So sad to hear the news about the big man @SamuelOji_24. One of the nicest guys you meet on and off the pitch. Thinking of the family. Gone far to soon.
