Top Nigerian Celebrities That Have Shown Support For The Biafra Movement

 It is over 50 years since Nigeria’s brutal civil war calling for the secession of the Biafra state. By the time it ended in 1970 over one million lives were lost had. Their show of doggedness and support comes in various forms, either by expressing hope for the actualization of the Biafra state or by calling for a referendum so that Igbo people can decide if they want to stay within the configuration of Nigeria and most recently by calling for the release of the arrested leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu, who was rearrested by the Federal Government in July.  

Some top eastern celebrities have also associated themselves with the Biafra struggle despite knowing for a fact that their careers may be at stake for speaking out.

They unweave in their actions, joining IPOB to advocate for the secession of the Igbo-populated South Eastern zone of the country. Cynthia AnyikwaBelow are celebrities who so far have shown their support for the secessionist state;

Chiwetalu Agu 

Seasoned veteran Nollywood actor, Chiwetalu Agu on Wednesday, 15th September made a bold statement after he was seen rocking a Biafra flag outfit. The Enugu-born script interpreter and producer known for his indigenous movie stunned fans by donning proudly the Biafra flag outfit. The 65-year-old comic actor is the first celebrity to publicly identify himself with the secessionist state. Although, his support got him arrested by The Nigerian Army.

Rita Edochie
Veteran Nollywood actress, Rita Edochie is another celebrity that has never for once hidden her unwavering support for the secessionist IPOB group and have continued to use her huge social media presence to call for the release of the group’s leader, Nnamdi Kanu, who was arrested and brought back to Nigeria in July according to the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Mr Abubakar Malami.

In her recent post on Instagram, Rita Edochie laid bare the reasons for her support where she noted that the Igbos cannot be third-class citizens in their own land while urging the Nigerian government to allow the Igbos to secede from Nigeria.

Rapper Zoro
Indigenous rapper, Owoh Chimaobi Chrismathner better known as Zoro showed his support by joining his voice. Although the rapper restrained himself from saying too much, he, however, left the authorities to their conscience.

Flavour Nabania  

In support of the Biafra movement, popular Igbo singer, Flavour is coming up with a new album titled: Obodo EKWELUGO NA ANYANWU ACHAWAGO(The Rising sun). The Album is said to be in solidarity with Chiwetalu Agu and support for the rising sun that is believed to surely rise. Flavour N'abania

Jim Iyke 

Popular Nollywood actor, Jim Iyke also justified the activities of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and the call for secession by Igbo people in the South-East. 

During an interview chat with BBC Igbo, the 44-year-old actor said that the calls of secession in the South-East was due to what he described as the “systemic oppression” of Igbos. jim iyke

Chibuzor Nelson Azubiuke 

Popular Igbo singer, Chibuzor is popularly known as Phyno fino has called for the restoration of the sovereign State of Biafra. He made this call while performing live on stage at the 2018 Aba Made show hosted by Ruffcoin Nwaba. When he came on stage sometime in 2018 where he asked “Na Biafra una want?” Almost everybody then shouted Yes! He replied “Umunnem, everybody in Igbo land wants Biafra, including me. We want this country to be divided let everybody go” he spoke in Igbo language. Immediately he made the statement everybody shouted Yes ooooooo and he kicked off his show and started performing alongside Ruffcoin. This however justify his support for Biafra.

But In reality, is the dismemberment of the country actually what the country needs for its actual growth and development?
