Sowore Releaseversary: Nigerian Authorities Must Drop All Charges – Amnesty International

The global movement against human rights abuses, Amnesty International Nigeria, has demanded that the Nigerian authorities drop all its charges against Sowore and Bakare.
Recall that in 2019, the activists were arrested, alongside Agba Jalingo, and detained by the Department of States Services, DSS, only to be released after months.
Today, 24th December, makes it a year the SaharaReporters founder was released, and Amnesty International Nigeria is revisiting the case, asking that all charges against him be dropped. “The case of Sowore shows just how far the authorities in Nigeria can go to silence their critics”, the NGO said.

“In Nov. 2019 Amnesty International declared Omoyele Sowore a prisoner of conscience, as he faced unfair an trial solely for exercising his right to freedom of expression. The Nigerian authorities must drop all charges against Sowore and Olawale Bakare”, Amnesty International Nigeria wrote.
