Former President, Olusegun Obasanjo has urged the Buhari administration to give heed to the petitions of the people and create a State police.
According to Obasanjo, Nigeria needs state police to adequately address the country’s security concerns as the security forces are getting overwhelmed by the insurgency.
He made his submission while he spoke at a lecture titled, ‘Social responsibility in nation building,’ to mark the 78th anniversary of Island Club. He added that it is very imperative for any nation seeking to develop to make sure peace, security and stability are the fundamental principles they adopt.

Obasanjo said: “I have said it before and I will say it again. Nigeria should have state police in all the states so that they can adequately tackle insecurity.
“Guaranteeing citizens a safe environment and round security is one thing a government must do. No nation can be built where peace, security and stability are not assured or guaranteed and with reasonable predictability of the President and the future not enthroned.”
In a related development, Olusegun Obasanjo recently urged the Federal Government to pull the plugs on the incessant borrowing.

Following reports that Buhari requested the approval of the National Assembly to borrow the fresh sums of $4,054,476,863 and €710 million, Obasanjo asked Buhari to put a stop to massive borrowing.
