Nigerian photographer and former artiste manager, Toni Payne seems to be reminiscing her times and memories created with legendary Nigerian rapper Dagrin, and has to the conclusion that Nigeria failed him.
Dagrin had died in 2010, following a ghastly automobile crash and year upon year, Nigerians celebrate the short but worthwhile time he spent in the Nigerian music industry, changing the rap game and bringing out the beauty of indigenous rap.Taking to her Instagram story, the ex-wife of singer, 9ice, Toni Payne recalled how Dagrin had brought her 50 litres of fuel during a scarcity, how he would give her gists from shows she could not attend, as well as how they used to gossip and drive around at night looking for Chinese restaurant. “Sometimes I be sitting here thinking about Dagrin… lol in an industry with many fake people who just want to use you… dude was a real one”, she began. I still get so angry when I recall him being stripped to that hospital bed or the fvcking doctors being on strike. Naija failed that man cos he fought for his life.”

“I can never forget how he brought me 50 liter fuel late at night during fuel scarcity. It was so thoughtful of him cos omo even I couldn’t find fuel anywhere and he just showed up to my house like… surprise lol… he knew I had connects but never asked or expected anything from me… just plain cool friendship… plus our many gossip when I couldn’t make it to a show cos I wanted to stay home with Z. I’d get all the gist of who is doing what like I was there so I didn’t miss out… or driving late night looking for Chinese food miss that dude 4 real”, she wrote.
