Nicki Minaj is planning a “huge second wedding” after rushing her marriage to Kenneth Petty with a small do at her home.
The 36-year-old rapper wed her former childhood boyfriend on Monday. According to US reports, the pair exchanged vows in front of “several family members” at a private LA residence.
Media reports have now revealed that the shock ceremony was only prompted because their marriage licence was due to expire at the end of the month.
The low-key nuptials are thought to have been precautionary, and Nicki wants to mark the wedding with a huge party at a later date. Two weddings appears to be a new celebrity trend of late, with Justin Bieber and Hailey Baldwin doing a similar thing earlier this year.
The two had a private ceremony with their nearest and dearest before following with a significantly more lavish party. Nicki previously opened up about the paperwork difficulty she and Kenneth have had as they tried to tie the knot.
Speaking on her radio show in August, the hitmaker said of their original wedding licence: “We still had to pick it up and I was travelling, by the time I came back, we had to renew it again. From that time, you have 90 days to get married. That was about a week ago, so now I have about 80 days.”
She and Kenneth previously dated as teenagers but reunited in 2018. The star appeared to confirm that she had got married earlier this week, when she showed off Mr. and Mrs. coffee mugs on Instagram – as well as bride and groom hats.
Nicki also changed her Twitter name to Mrs. Petty, with the caption reading: “Onika Tanya Maraj-Petty 10-21-19”. The move sparked controversy, with Kenneth being arrested 12 times over the years for crimes that range from sexual assault to shooting a man dead.
