Flutterwave Employees Can Borrow Against Shares via Techdollar
Flutterwave has introduced a share-backed loan program with Techdollar, allowing employees to access cash without selling their equity.

TechCabal reports that Flutterwave’s staff have access to cash by leveraging their vested shares without liquidating them, thanks to a partnership with Techdollar, a US private-credit startup. This initiative provides an alternative to traditional methods of converting equity into cash.
The loans enable staff to obtain cash prior to a company sale or stock-market listing, while preserving their potential future profits from the equity. Flutterwave, with a valuation of $3.25 billion, stated in April that it was not close to pursuing an initial public offering (IPO).
Techdollar provides short-term financing to employees based on their vested shares, offering funds up to half the value of the equity over a period of six to twelve months. In the event of a default, the lender has the authority to take possession of and liquidate the shares that were pledged as collateral. Employees retain their equity upon repaying the loan, yet face the possibility of losing it should they fail to meet repayment obligations.

In 2025, Moniepoint and Arnergy permitted staff to liquidate a portion of their equity, although
A Stears and Ventures Platform report indicated that the increase in African exits was partly due to a 33% reduction in funding and a 36% growth in exits, with fund managers typically holding their stakes for an average of 6.2 years before exiting. The report also noted that 181 verified VC-backed exits were recorded on the continent from 2011 to 2026, highlighting the scarcity of such events.
