Liverpool players were shamed and slammed for not being the first to console keeper Loris Karius after his Champions League final horror show.
The Kop star had a total lapse of concentration to gift Karim Benzema the first in Kiev. Â And he flapped at thin air to allow Gareth Bale‘s 30-yard screamer to find the back of the net in the 3-1 win for the Spanish side. At the final whistle, viewers noticed it was the Real players who were first to go over to an obviously devastated Karius.
The goalkeeper’s team-mates did eventually go over to console him and Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher made a point of comforting Karius as he left the pitch. The former defender put an arm around the German’s shoulders as he walked off.
But social media users blasted the dejected Liverpool stars for not being faster to come to their team-mate’s aid. One wrote: “Utterly classless from Liverpool. Real Madrid players go over to console Karius. Not one Liverpool player comes near him.”
Another said: “Not a single Liverpool team-mate is consoling Karius, only the Real Madrid players. So much for ‘you’ll never walk alone’. A fellow user wrote: “Karius has to be picked up by Real Madrid players. No Liverpool team-mates in sight. Poor sod.” Another posted: “Not one Liverpool player goes to Karius. Left to the Real players to console him”.
“Yes he’s had a mare but the lack of class there just shows every reason that team doesn’t deserve the trophy.” One Twitter user said: “Poor Karius. Leaving him there crying into the turf. Real Madrid players coming to support but NOBODY from his own team. This is the worst moment of his life.”
