Top 5 Fashion Items That Stormed The 2018 Nigerian Fashion Scene

The year 2018 witnessed major fashion trends despite it starting slowly with close to half of the year still seeing fashion items from 2017. The year had a major focus on designer items, with everyday Nigerians donning and rocking various designer outfits and shoes in brand names such as Gucci, Versace, Loius Vuitton and so on. In styles, vintage jeans were the raves, to which last year trending vintage shirts were matched to it. And although sneakers trended also, we doubt if it would ever stop being the rave, Chelsea boots were, however, more appreciated this year. Enough said, here is the list of the top five fashion items that stormed the 2018 fashion scene

Fanny pack: This cool fashion item was everywhere in the year 2018. After it was seen on some A-list celebrities, the rave was quickly caught and it spread like wildfire. It has attained a position where if one’s outfit isn’t complemented with a fanny pack, well you shouldn’t have bothered even wearing one to start with.

Clothes With Fringes: Oh yes, the ladies constantly hassled us with this, every one of their clothes came with the fringes. Either at the arm, at the waist, at the back, at the bottom, fringes, fringes everywhere. No doubt, it really was beautiful to look at, as it added this certain razzmatazz to the clothes.

Brogues/Chelsea boots: As earlier mentioned, these shoes came comfortably and stole the scene from all the sneakers that we loved donning or looking at. It probably dominated sneakers because of its versatileness. It can be professional, yet fun all at once.

Adire: This year was the year of Adire appreciation, everyone looked towards their inner self and realized that they have been sleeping on the artistic and beautiful Adire. Yes, that and the fact that the new patterns on them are now more Urban and relatable for youths.

Sweat Shirts: This particularly was the rave in 2018, everywhere you go, sweatshirts and pants! The cheap ones became more expensive, the designer ones now cost two Kidneys, but we cannot deny that they look absolutely cool, giving the wearer the absolute touch of swag, so yes, we would say it absolutely was worth the price.

Other fashion items that trended includes… all-the-way-up slitted skirts, turbans, sling bags, clothes with over the top logos and designs, off-white belt and so on. Photo Credit: Getty
