Manchester United striker Romelu Lukaku is eager to put the club back where he feels they belong with two key games coming up after the international break.
United fought back from 2-0 down to beat Newcastle 3-2 at Old Trafford with a late goal from Alexis Sanchez to ease the pressure on manager Jose Mourinho. The match was viewed a must-win for Mourinho, despite senior club sources denying reports that surfaced on Friday night that the manager would be sacked at the weekend regardless of the result against Newcastle. The victory sent United eighth in the Premier League table – seven points behind Manchester City, Liverpool and Chelsea – but the Red Devils face two daunting games following the international break.
Mourinho returns to Stamford Bridge as United face Chelsea on October 20, and then welcome Cristiano Ronaldo back to Old Trafford as Juventus head to town for their Champions League group clash. A heavy defeat in either game would put further pressure on Mourinho, but Lukaku is eager to keep the momentum going and avoid the anxiety he experienced before the Newcastle game. “I can go to Belgium with a cool feeling (after winning],” Romelu told MUTV. “But at the end of the day, we are not where I want us (United) to be, so I’m going to go to Belgium, hopefully do well for my country, but knowing that I have two important games for my team coming back.I’m a really bad loser, so coming into the game (against Newcastle], I really was anxious, because I wanted to win. Thank God we won the game today and now the important thing with the international break is that nobody gets injured. When we come back, we have two important games where, if we have good results, we can move forward.”
