The move to legalize weed around the world rose to a new height as the Mayor of New York, Bill de Blasio, ordered policemen to stop arresting people for smoking marijuana.
De Blasio also urged policemen to make peace with the presence of the substance, going by the fact that it will soon be legalized in the city.

He said: “With marijuana legalisation likely to occur in our state in the near future, it is critical our city plans for the public safety, health, and financial consequences involved. While I still have real concerns we must work through, it isn’t difficult to see where this is headed and any responsible policymaker must prepare for that eventuality.”
Mayor de Blasio urged policemen to issue summons to people caught smoking marijuana, rather than arresting them. He also said the same punishment should be given to those found to possess small amounts of the substance.
