Naija Ninja! NBBF Dedicates D’Tigers’ Wins To Sound Sultan

The Nigerian Basketball Federation has dedicated the Nigerian Senior basketball team, D’Tigers’ recent wins to late singer and songwriter Olanrewaju Abdul-Ganiu Fasasi, popularly known as Sound Sultan, who was passionate about basketball and did his best to support the sport.

Sound Sultan’s had passed on to the great beyond on Sunday 11th July, 2021, the same day D’Tigers met with and devoured the United States of America’s team. In a statement issued by his family, Sound Sultan died while battling Angioimmunoblastic T-Cell Lymphoma. During his lifetime, the singer is a well known basketball fan and had helped develop the game in Festac area of Lagos. Naija Ninja! NBBF Dedicates D’Tigers’ Wins To Sound SultanD’Tigers had pulled off a shocking win over the United States of America in the early hours of Sunday 11th July in an exhibition game ahead of Tokyo Olympics, and also defeated Argentina who are ranked fourth-best team in the world in another exhibition game played on July 12.

Shortly after the games, NBBF took to social media to honour Sound Sultan. We dedicate the victories against US & Argentina to late Olanrewaju Fasasi (@Soundsultan). You saw this day coming when Nigeria would become a dominant force in global basketball. Ironically, the day we won against @usabasketball, that was when you gave up the ghost.
