Coronavirus: Angry Muslim Worshippers Attack Taskforce In Lagos

Members of the Lagos State COVID-19 Taskforce were attacked and mauled by Muslim worshippers at Agege Central Mosque Agege Lagos State. The COVID-19 Taskforce who have been saddled with the responsibility to enforce the compliance that gatherings within the state do not exceed 25 persons, in the country’s bid to stem the spread of the deadly novel Coronavirus ravaging the country. Speaking about the incident the General Manager, Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency (LASEPA) and the leader of the Taskforce, Dr Dolapo Fasawe said members of his COVID-19 Taskforce team, which included LASEPA, Lagos Safety Commission and Rapid Response Squad, noticed that the gathering at Agege central mosque observing the evening prayers (Salatu Isha) was beyond the publicly acceptable number under the new Coronavirus pandemic regulations so they decided to intervene and displace the gathering and get them to leave the mosque and return to the homes, it was during them performing their duties that the violence broke and members of the Taskforce were attacked forcing them to react.

“However, a drama ensued when some of the Muslim youths sighted the team and became aggressive, unruly and started to attack the team. Others in the mosque, numbering about 300 rushed out chanting ALLAHU AKBAR and joined them in the attack by throwing stones at the vehicles. All entreaties to talk to the Imam failed as the youth were persistent. But the Police escort rose to the occasion by curbing further attacks and ensuring the safety of the team”, she disclosed.
