Music Review: Peruzzi Dishes Out Skill & Talent While Dropping A Lyrical Drink Fit For Kings On The Album ‘Rum And Boogie’

Rum Is For Emotions, Boogie Is Me Trying New Things - Peruzzi Speaks On New Album
DMW’s signee, singer, producer, and songwriter Peruzzi is a banger as he finally drops his long-awaited sophomore album titled, Rum and Boogie. This is a follow-up to the critically acclaimed Huncho Vibez album released back in 2019.rum and boogie peruzzi koko tv ng This album is a surprisingly 20-track body of work; Having 15 songs on the album with an additional 5 songs to the original 15 songs on the album, seeing features and collaborations with Fireboy DML in the already released Southy Love, Patoranking, Phyno, Wande Coal, Davido, Idowest, Tiwa Savage and Teni. Peruzzi is definitely out to kill.
One track that stands out in terms of vocals, uniqueness, and synchronization is See Love, this track is a hit single material and is already making waves in the music space.
Known for his fantastic songwriting skills Peruzzi doesn’t fall short of our expectations on this bodywork.
Davido has been able to establish his signature tune so whenever we hear the OBO king we know he is the one. And of course, we feel the impact of the established singer and father on this song Somebody Baby.
It’s like having a powerhouse, Davido x Peruzzi = magic, and that is what was produced on this track, way to go.
Songs like Murda, Gunshot, Girlie, Call, Color, Change Your Style are forever going to make us move, transporting us to a realm where love rules and this is definitely the Rum the singer was talking about when he said Rum and Boogie.
The beats are superb as we hear and see him doing wonders on Davido’s songs, it is satisfying to see him do much more than that on his own body of work.
It would have bad for him to write great songs for others and then his own work is sh*tty.
The singer divides the messages embedded in this album into two parts, as a part shows the lovey-dovey young singer and the boogie part introduces us to a new version of Peruzzi as he tries new things.
We love the 2FACE feel he gives on the track God Forbid. Peruzzi just keeps on proving how talented and gifted he is, that is all we saying on this table.
Afro queen, Tiwa Savage brought on the lights on Matrimony. The beats and blend of voices is really great.
Tiwa has been featured on a lot of albums and sometimes she doesn’t just cut it as much as a Simi or Teni would. I just think she needs to up her game because we all know she is good and gifted.
One of the reasons she was able to pull this one off is because she and Peruzzi kind of have this same blend of feel and music direction in a way. The voice was a perfect blend.
Moving on, the igbotic vibe and beat on the track Lagbaja is what actually makes it stand. Peruzzi takes the beats and creates the perfect lyrics for it on this track because it is a smooth flow from lyrics to beats. We experience a new feel to Peruzzi and we have to say, it definitely sounds good.
At no point have we complained about the lyrical content of this body of work because the singer has done his assignment and the result lyrically is commendable.
Kalakuta is that song to vibe too when you are out chilling with friends. This DMW signee is unique and we have to commend him. From the trumpet to the background sound of the drum, thumbs up.Finally! The fact we see a combo of Don Jazzy, Phyno and Peruzzi we just have to love that song and forget the hype, they all delivered, come on.
The song Baddest is a well-made meal and we can’t resist. There is that balance in terms of synchronization, tonal quality, embellishment, the flute seals it all for us. The message of the song is portrayed in the beats, lyrics what else could we have asked for.
Two vocally strong performers paired on a track raise the bar of expectation and Available is that track. Wande Coal on this track brought it home and seeing Peruzzi in his element but a better and newer version of him is a good new, super boogie feel right here.
That amapiano spice kills it again and again on the track Feeling Good. The Africaness of this when incorporated into a song always makes a great song. And Peruzzi doesn’t just depend on the power of the beat but gives us great lyrical content to wash it all down. He sings, Last flight to Dubai, I meet the shawty for Mumbai, She show me somethin’ make i buy, I see the bill I say gba bai, bye-bye, I enter Holland, one puff, I shouti o loud, she’s so loud, My driver sef just dey go round, go round, go round, Till we enter india, Just to say that I’ve been there, I post am on social media, Make dem know say the boy feel their ginger.
On Baba God, The singer takes a little of everything to produces this body of work as he doesn’t stop at afro mix beat but gives us reggae feel on the Baba God with self-made King, Patoranking.
Many have tried but few have gotten, is the case of Fireboy when it comes to creating a signature for himself. That he has achieved.
Another fantastic songwriter is Fireboy on the track Southy Love. The rum of his album is well poured right here and we love the use of the languages ranging from Yoruba to Igbo that has been used to spice up several tracks on this body of work.
Final Thoughts
Peruzzi’s Rum and Boogie is a reaffirmation of the faith people have in the talent and gift of this young star. Davido really made the right choice when he signed this bundle of talent. Even when he sings an ordinary song it will always sound extraordinary because he approaches things from a unique angle making his works stand out.
Peruzzi is one of the few singers in Nigeria that years to come will be relevant because what they have is not fleeting talent or fame but inbuilt stamina to stand in the music space.
Rum and Boogie is worth the hype and deserves all the recommendations in the world because he uses his strength and transforms his space to perfection.
