Music Review: Omah Lay Gives Off The ‘I’ Factor On ‘Boy Alone’

Fast-rising Nigerian Afrobeats sweetheart Omah Lay has finally dropped his debut studio album titled Boy Alone.omah lay

Since Omah Lay rose to prominence in 2020 with the release of his hit single You the boy has been climbing the success ladder like a dope king, as he did with his omnivorous extended play, Get Layd and the follow-up, What Have We Done. Boy Alone consists of 14 tracks and it features guest appearances by Justin Bieber and Tay Iwar. So the track that opens this body of work is Recognize and hearing Omah Lay’s voice in those first three line is just refreshing. Recognize is the typical intro prepping music lovers for what is to come and he definitely made our appetites wet. I kicks off with an amazing beat and presents a smooth arrangement. On I Omah Lay makes it known that he can not be nobody for life and that’s a fact. Bend You is typically Omah Lay because you can’t have an Omah Lay’s album and not have a song about s*x and its activities. Bend You is just as the name implies, it gives an explicit explanation of what he intends to do to his love interest in the bedroom. Woman had everyone screaming, and dancing because he gave us his usual magic and we loved it. This track gives a feel of the vibes Damn gives.

I’m a Mess speaks about his emotional mood swings as he says Sometimes I’m happy, sometimes I’m sad, I don’t know what’s over me, Sometimes I’m good, sometimes I’m wild, I don’t know what’s over me. His voice here is breathtaking and he gives off that afro-R&B vibes that just melts in your ears. Temptation makes us understand his struggle to go back to his old ways of living but he pushes himself to be better and stand stronger. Understand is another hit single that has been topping charts and buzzing on our playlist as he speaks about his love interest who isn’t faithful to him. Here he alludes to the story of Samson and Delilah in the bible. Never Forget has an afro-pop beat that just makes you want to bounce. So far, Omah Lay has gotten it right in terms of his instrumentation and beat and we have to give him his flowers.

Safe Haven has one of the coolest beat on this body of work and it can be seen that the fast-rising singer gave his all and revealed different aspects of his multi talented self here. The song with the first feature on the Boy Alone album is Attention featuring Justin Bieber. We have no words for Attention because Attention caught our attention, (lol). Soso will get you up on your feet and dancing non stop because it is that track with the vibes. How to Love, Tell Everybody featuring Tay Iwar and Purple Song are breathtaking.omah lay
