Rising Nigerian afro-dancehall star King Perryy shares his genre-bending debut album titled, Citizen of the World. The singer stated that this body of work is an identity, a mindstate, It’s not just an album. I found the title the moment I found myself, he said.
The album features the previously released singles Work N Grind, My Darlina, Waist and also featured Nigerian musicians such as Timaya, Mayorkun, Phyno, and Oxlade.
This body of work which is released by Timaya’s DM Record is an introduction to Kind Perryy’s expansive continental sound which is a fusion of afrobeat, pan-African pop, reggae, and dancehall.
The talented young musician brings to us a blend of rich and unique feel of dance hall and reggae especially.

From the opening track of the 17-track body of work African Boy, we are introduced into the world of this King who intends to take us on a ride different from every other ride we have been on.
He focuses on his delivery ensuring to give a feel and understanding of how he applies the different genres to create something worth hearing.
We have to give it to him on the tracks Yawa, Jati Jati, Paulina we don’t need to ask how or what made them hit single.

Big Man Cruise is a banger, Mayorkun just has a way of bringing out the vibe in a song and he was definitely the right choice for this track. King Perryy is also an equal talent in his own right.
Of course, we are not surprised that he features Timaya on the track Get the Money.
From this track, one low point of this entire work is the lyrical content. We know you are trying to work along the lines of dancehall, reggae, and the likes but come on, the beats are just okay, the lyrics, not there at all. It’s like we are hearing a voice trying to remind us of what he singing.
Irrespective and considering the fact that is one of his introductory work where he walks along the lines of the likes of Patoranking and co, he has a good start.
His synchronization, embellishments and instrumentation are commendable. He just needs a few touches here and there he will be having a body of work with all tracks been hit singles.
Citizen of the World delivers a wide range of moods, emotions, and genres, and that to a large extent is worth commending.
Final Thoughts
King Perryy’s Citizen of the World is a blend of rich genres and that is one major highpoint of this body of work. Just like the singer that he found the title the moment he found himself, he has done well and expects better from him. Listen to the album here;
