Theta‘ is his first album project for the year 2022 after a successful release of his previous album titled “9: Harmattan & Winter“, which consisted of 9 solid tracks with no feature.  This time he drops a 10-track body of work still with no feature, all him. Theta takes us on a journey back to the days of the trans-Atlantic slave trade to more recent history.

Known for his unique ways of viewing things and passing across his messages, all songs are written from the view of a researcher, in an attempt to suggest different outcomes to already known tales. brymoThis body of work starts with the track Illusions and he takes his time to create that sonic feel right from the beginning. His constant use of pidgin English just helps to pass across his message more deeply. Illusions warns people not to embark on certain life journeys because the ones who have followed that path that they are about to go on have not returned since they left. He makes it known that this kind of path is an illusion created for others to fall prey to, hence they should be warned. There is this folklike feel underneath this piece that makes you want to lie on your bed and listen to meditate on the message he is trying to pass across. Pim Pim follows the same mellow path as Illusions but it sheds light on doing what your heart says you should do instead of listening to every pim pim that sounds on your way.

Dem No Born Us Together starts on a much different note with Brymo speaking about understanding that your path is different from that of another person and just as the title states, dem no born us together so do your own make I do my own. brymo thetaThere is that afro-alte feel he adopts on most of these tracks and for the personality, he portrays on this entire piece, it is apt. Love is something everybody sings about, but when Brymo jumps on it, he will definitely give a different tone and direction and this is what plays out on the track Love na Drug. Money Good, Life day Go On, Tomorrow, Oga, Market Square, and For You are all just as the titles are. One trait he adopts on Theta is the direct meaning of the title of each track. There is no personification or allusion here, he goes direct and hard.
Final Thoughts
Theta is a body of work that is the definition of what a Brymo can do. It’s an amazing fact that he has maintained his style and music direction over the years and he keeps setting the pace for young stars who want to toll that line. Theta gets a 7/10 because it’s Brymo, he always deserves to be the songwriter of the year because his lyrics are always on point and relatable. Listen to the album here;
