Adekunle Gold is one singer whose sound has grown evidently. It is obvious that he is intentional about the kind of music he puts out and how it is delivered. His fourth studio album, Catch Me If You Can is a 14-track body of work that is power-packed. He features amazing singers like Davido, Stefflon Don, Foushee, TY Dolla Sign, Fatoumata Diawara, Lucky Daye. So let’s dig in, AG Baby starts this musical journey with the track Born Again where he features Malian singer who has two Grammy nominations, Fatoumata Diawara. This track is more like an intro that defines the new cool Adekunle Gold as the lyrics says he has been living for others for a long time but now he has realized and is now living for himself. He embodies his progress so far and it is a very befitting title considering his marriage, career, and child, just beautiful.

One high point about this singer is the fact that one can’t listen to Adejare’s daddy and get tired of his sound, and that is evident on the track Win. He is all about thanks and appreciation for how far he has come because of the support he has received so far. He didn’t fail to mention his throwback which is something that wows a lot of people, taking a look at the old Adekunle Gold and the new one right here, in terms of dressing, and sound, the difference is clear, and we definitely love the new and improved singer by far. You know it’s not possible to have an Adekunle Gold album and not have a track with a Yoruba name on it, so Mase Mi, is that vibe. He counters the trend of using negative means to prosper, making it clear that he will follow the right path no matter because he is not selling himself for anything. His highlife vibe is remarkable, how he manages to stay on that thin line between highlife and afro-pop/beat is just beautiful. Mase Mi has this solemn highlife yet groovy feel to it. One Woman featuring international star TY Dolla Sign is definitely for Simi (lol). The way he delivers his love songs are just blissful.

Here he expresses his desire and how deeply in love he is with his wife. He doesn’t fail to adopt that traditional yet modern vibe and TY Dolla Sign ate up this track, no cap. This is a perfect combo, no doubt. You can’t start listening to this body of work and get tired, and the sound we have all been waiting for, Simi drops the intro of the track Mercy and we can’t help but be in love with it. On More Than Enough he gives that highlife feel hand down and we are loving it. Here he refers to his love interest and how he is ready to take her anywhere she wants to go. This is that track that will get you nodding your head unconsciously without your knowledge. Sinner was released featuring Lucky Daye and everyone wants to become a sinner. Listening to it over and over again, it’s no doubt that it is a hit single. Adekunle Gold just has a way of making every sound and word, sound classic. FYE features Stefflon Don the queen and we really want to know. Their blend is a nice one, as FYE is definitely for the lovers in the building who are ready to take things to the next level.

One thing that is clear on this entire afro-pop body of work is the fact that he has a seamless blend of lyrics and sound and topped it with the perfect features. It takes deep thought, dedication, and lots of work to achieve this, and daddy Adejare did not fall our hand. Sleep is definitely not for you to sleep mehn, (lol). We really need to understand how the singer is able is sing about God and sex on the same body of work and still, look cool while doing it. High is that hit single featuring Davido that you can’t get tired of, no questions asked, period. It makes perfect sense to finish listening to High and get right on with Dior Dior Dior featuring American singer, Foushee. It’s not just the trumpets that create that blissful feeling but her amazing voice. This track is typical Adekunle Gold straight up, we see and feel the loverboy in the singer and we are loving him more. It Is What It Is really is what it is, very relatable and beautiful. His lyrics are just deep, the way he takes the words and makes them have more meaning than they already do. On this track, he makes it known he will not be kissing a*s or be a hypocrite for anything. He dishes facts on this track and a lot of people in this generation need to have this track on repeat in order to have peace of mind. Selah reveals a young man who would rather have peace than be in a relationship where he doesn’t have peace of mind because their stars don’t match.

It’s the way he says that Selah that will make you fall in love with this track. The track from which the album gets its title, Catch Me If You Can is a reflection of his journey so far and how he has evolved over time. He says he has never seen a greater miracle than himself and he is very correct because it is actually like a miracle, the way he has evolved in every ramification. AG Baby made it known that many might say he made it overnight but he hustled and worked hard till he made it and so anyone who thinks they can, should try catching him if they can. Just the perfect way to end this musical journey and keep us longing for more of AG sound.
Final Thoughts
AG Baby’s Catch Me If You Can is a show of growth, skill, talent, diversity, and musical tenacity. His sound has always been unique but he is now back and, better, big time. This body of work gets an 8/10. AG baby is really our baby, no cap. Listen to the EP here;
