Movie Review: ”Namaste Wahala” Deserves An Award For Its Unique Storyline & Unpredictability

The first-ever Nollywood and Bollywood movie is here. After whetting our appetite with its sizzling trailer and a fantastic love scene, Namaste Wahala finally premiered on the 14th of February and we can’t get enough of the action. Produced by Indian filmmaker, Hamisha Daryani Ahuja, we are taken on a love ride and we are so loving it. Namaste Wahala which is a combination of the Indian word Namaste and the Nigerian word Wahala is the perfect name for this movie with its unique storyline.
The movie focuses on romance, love, laughter, tears, and family set over two diverse and rich cultures. The lead characters Chidinma (Ini-Dima Okojie) and Bollywood film and TV actor Raj (Russian Mumtaz) depicted the journey of how two people from different races can come together and have a forever together. From the beginning of the movie, one would think it is going to be the usual story of two people falling in love and their parents opposing it. But the storyline of this movie is off the chains. The graph is certainly going up, there are a lot of corners, and complexity presented by the storyline that just throws you into a new curve when you think you know what is going to happen next. I have to commend the storyline it is fantastic, it is unpredictable. They get a five-star for the storyline. The character of Chidinma played by Ini-Dima Okojie was above average. At first one would say a Sharon Ooja would have played the role better but Ini-Dima brought in her A-game and she developed as a character, she was the perfect round character evolving from the first scene to the last scene. But one thing is for sure, Ini-Dima Okojie is not a dancer,(lol). She tried, but she is definitely not a dancer. I think the fact that the lead characters were not dancers, they kind of minimized the choreography to simple steps so it can be portrayed rightly. The director and choreographer were very smart in this aspect.
Supporting characters such as Joke Silva, Richard Mofe Damijo, Osas Ighodaro, Broda Shaggi, Anee Icha, K10, Ibrahim Suleiman, Imoh Eboh, Frodd indeed was the perfect cast. People like Broda Shaggi who played just one scene smashed his role in that one scene. It was hilarious and well played out, making an impression even in that one scene.
Of course, Richard Mofe Damijo killed the role of Ernest who was Didi’s father. He always delivers and we expected nothing less. The same goes for Joke Silva. Nollywood veterans who never drop the ball at any point, kudos to them all the way.

There was a seamless flow from one scene to another which is very commendable. In terms of musicality, it was okay, there were scenes the music could have been better but overall it was not bad.
On a scale of one to ten, I will say the Nigerian feel and Indian feel is a 50/50 in terms of the costume of each character and also the general location which took place in Lagos helped create a balance and better understanding of the entire storyline.
Final Thoughts
Namaste Wahala is a movie needed in the movie industry both home and abroad. It has the potential to break boundaries as a result of its uniqueness and amazing direction. It will definitely make you cry happy tears at the ending and also Make you think deeper. Looking for the perfect movie to make you sit at the edge of your seat while being taken on a love cruise, Namaste Wahala is the perfect must-watch this February.Photo Credit: Getty
