Mourinho’s Tough Love Has Helped Me Become A Better Player- Marcus Rashford

Marcus Rashford has revealed the “ups and downs” he endured under Jose Mourinho at Manchester United.

But the England striker, 22, admitted the manager’s tough love helped him to improve as a player. Mourinho led United to the League Cup and Europa League before he was sacked in December 2018.

Rashford described the 57-year-old’s reign as a “tough period” – but claimed it benefited him as a player.

Speaking to the UTD Podcast, he said: “It was tough but I think when you look back on it in five or six years, they’re the moments that give you that mental toughness. As an all-round player I’ve improved a lot and a lot of is down to those two years under Jose. We had ups and downs. When I look back at it, it was a tough period but definitely a period that made me a better player.”

During his time at Old Trafford, Spurs boss Mourinho insisted Rashford was more useful out wide than he was in the No9 role.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has continued to use him predominantly as a right-footed left-winger this season. And the England star has racked up an impressive 19 goals and five assists in all competitions.
