Morocco Beat Portugal 1-0 To Become 1st African Nation To Reach Semis

Must read

Morocco became the first African team ever to reach the semi-finals of the World Cup after defeating Portugal 1-0 on Saturday.

Youssef En-Nesyri’s first-half header secured a historic win for Morocco, who will play defending champions France or England for a place in the final.

Morocco has surpassed the three other African sides to reach the quarter-finals — Cameroon in 1990, Senegal in 2002, and Ghana in 2010.

Cristiano Ronaldo started on the bench once again, as Fernando Santos decided to stick to the same team that scaled through the group stages.

The match started on the bright side for Morroco, as virtually everybody in the stadium was rooting for the Atlas lions.

Portugal tried to control the game by playing through the middle, but the Morrocan team midfield was too strong for Bruno Fernandez, and Bernando Silva to break.

Despite multiple pressure from Portugal, Morroco’s YahiaEn-neseyri broke the deadlock in the 42nd minute, right before the end of the first half.
