Mohamed Salah’s agent has jetted into Liverpool with talks over the club over a new £500,000-a-deal for the Egyptian winger.

The 29-year-old has just over 18 months to run on his existing deal at Anfield and talks over a new deal have progressed slowly, despite both sides intimating that they’d like to agree on an extension.

Salah had previously suggested he’d be open to a move to Spain but the financial climate has closed off that opportunity and he’s now keen to stay on Merseyside.

He is, however, keen to extract a record-breaking contract from the Reds to reflect his performance level and the Mirror say his agent was in the UK on Saturday to hold discussions with the club over a new deal.

While Liverpool are prepared to make Salah their best paid player, the club are reluctant to stretch to £500,000-a-week.

But Salah’s agent, Ramy Abbas, is fighting for a record-breaking deal and feels that his client is in a strong position given his performances this term.

Salah’s scored ten goals in ten appearances so far this season and his effort in a 5-0 win against Watford on Saturday was the best yet, with the former Chelsea man jinxing through the Hornets’ defence before placing a fine effort past Ben Foster.

Salah is remaining coy over his future and recently refused to discuss an extension with the club’s website.

‘I’m happy as long as the team keep winning,’ said Salah.

‘I’m trying to help always, to score goals and make the team win games – that’s the most important (thing).

‘We have to give our best always to win something and I think we have the quality for that. We have a top team, so we have to push ourselves to the limit and try to win something. I’m sure everybody thinks the same.

‘That’s what we need, just to keep in our head that we finish the season winning something.’
