A young woman who was told she would never have kids gave birth to a baby boy, just seven days after discovering she was nine months pregnant.
Claire Sumner, 29, and partner Ian Dolan, 57, were stunned when a doctor said she was about to go into labour. The couple, who have been together for seven years, had accepted they would never conceive after Claire was diagnosed with polycystic ovaries at 16. When she started putting on a bit of weight, Ian encouraged her to exercise. He even got her to join him on a hill hike, unaware she was weeks away from her due date.
Three weeks ago Claire went to her doctor — and now she and Ian have two-week-old James John Clark Dolan. Claire, from Wigan, England, said: “I’m still in shock. The doctor said I was already nine months gone and a week later I went into labour. People asked if I had felt any movements but I never did. To be told I couldn’t have children at just 16 was devastating but now I’m so happy. I just can’t stop staring at him.” Claire met driver Ian at work and, despite the age gap, they hit it off. Ian said: “I’m doing cartwheels. I never imagined I’d be a dad and now here’s this little bundle of joy.”
