Spain captain, Sergio Ramos says Lionel Messi is ahead of Diego Maradona as the best Argentine player in history.
Ramos has encountered the Barcelona forward several times at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu during Spanish club seasons and European competitions. “In Argentina they know that Maradona is light years away from the best Argentine player in history, which for me is Lionel Messi,” he explained in Kazan.
Messi has faced criticism since he missed a penalty to give Argentina the three points in their 2018 World Cup debut against Iceland, and the world expect to see the best when they face Croatia on Thursday.
Spain’s victory over Iran on Wednesday put La Roja in the top spot in Group B. “We’re happy, we’ve taken another step forward,” he said.
“Now we must try to top the group. That’s our goal, I think we can improve in all aspects.”
