Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor was born at dawn on Monday but secrecy remains over where he was born.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle will not make their son’s birth certificate public in a break with royal tradition, according to reports. The certificate, which will have to list the place of birth for Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor, will be submitted to a local registrar but not made available by the palace, it is claimed.
The decision would be change from the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge , who permitted the birth certificates of each of their three children to be released for the benefit of the historic record. The Sussexes, on the other hand, want to keep the details of where Archie was born for as long as possible, declining to confirm the medical team responsible, according to reports.
It is thought the Duchess of Sussex was whisked away to the plush Portland Hospital in the early hours of Monday where she gave birth at 5 .26am. However, other than the time, no details have been confirmed by the palace or the couple themselves. Meghan had hoped to have a home birth.
Other changes to tradition in the birth announcement have been noted. A declaration of Archie’s birth on an easel on the forecourt of Buckingham Palace on Monday was signed personally by the Queen instead of doctors. The baby, who is six days old on Sunday, has been settling in to life as the seventh-in-line to the throne at Frogmore Cottage this week, with his grandmother Doria Ragland, and family visitors including the sister of Diana, Princess of Wales. Lady Jane Fellowes, Prince Harry ’s aunt on his mother’s side, was among the first to meet Archie, keeping the memory of his late mother at the centre of family life.
The Duke and Duchess chose to specifically mention the Spencer family in their birth announcement, listing them along with Prince Harry’s paternal family in a message sharing their “delight”.
The Queen and Duke of Edinburgh were introduced to Archie on Wednesday, shortly after he was shown to the public. On Saturday the Duke of Sussex took a break from parenting to join the Queen at the Royal Windsor Horse Show. The Duchess described her son as having the “sweetest temperament”, while a delighted duke called him “our own little bundle of joy”. Meghan is likely to still have the company of her mother Doria Ragland at the couple’s Frogmore Cottage home which is near to the Queen’s Windsor Castle residence.
