Mauricio Pochettino Wants Manchester United To Sign Harry Kane If He Is Appointed Manager

Mauricio Pochettino remains one of the leading contenders for the Manchester United job, and he is expected to push for the club to sign Harry Kane if he takes over at Old Trafford.

Former Tottenham Hotspur manager Pochettino led Spurs to the Champions League final with Kane in attack, as well as securing multiple top-four finishes in the Premier League , and new reports suggest a reunion could be on the cards.

With United looking at several managerial options, including Spain boss Luis Enrique , there is no guarantee of Pochettino taking over when interim boss Ralf Rangnick leaves his role at the end of the season.

However, if the current Paris Saint-Germain boss is chosen to take the reins, a move for Kane could be a welcome sight with an aging front-line perhaps needing replacing at Old Trafford.

According to reports, Pochettino is set on urging the United hierarchy to move for Kane if he is handed the manager’s job on a permanent basis.

The England captain was close to joining Manchester City over the summer, only for a move to fail to materialise, and endured a tough few months in the Premier League before recovering his form under Antonio Conte.

Kane has 15 goals in all competitions this season, albeit just five in the league, and remains some way off the career high of 41 he achieved under Pochettino in the 2017-18 season.

In November, he revealed the whirlwind start to the season – just a month after England’s Euro 2020 final disappointment – left him with little time to let the events of the summer sink in.

“Obviously we play a lot of games throughout the year and there’s not much time to recover and reflect on things,” he said.

“Any chance you can just get on that training pitch, work on a few things, get back to what you know best is important. That’s definitely what I tried to do.”

United are yet to make a permanent managerial appointment after parting ways with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in November, with Rangnick taking the reins until the end of the season.

The German is set to move into a consultancy role once a new manager is brought in, and Pochettino remains a contender despite only taking over at PSG in January 2021 .

Zinedine Zidane has been linked with the top job in Paris, and Pochettino has responded to his current club being linked with a man he considers a “great coach”.

“He can train any trainer in the world. Also, he is French. That is one more question for the sporting director or the president,” Pochettino said when quizzed on the matter.

“Look, when Zinedine Zidane was at Real Madrid , how many rumours didn’t come out of me [when I was] in England?
