Matchday 38: 2021/2022 English Premier League Winner To Be Decided On Final Day

The English Premier League for the 2021/2022 season comes to a close on the 22nd of May 2022. Unlike some seasons where the winners have already been crowned champions, this season is different because the winner will be decided on the final matchday 38. On the other hand, on matchday 38, the remaining team to be relegated from the League this season will be known and it will be either Burnley FC or Leeds United.

Another battle that will place as matchday 38 of the EPL as it comes to an end is the battle for the Champions League spot. A long campaign all boils down to this huge fixture for Manchester City. Win and they’re Premier League (PL) champions for the fourth time in five years, but anything less could open the door for second-placed Liverpool – who are just a point behind – to leapfrog them to glory. While the stakes couldn’t be higher, just one defeat across the ‘Cityzens’ last 13 season finales (W10, D2).

Fixtures for final Matchday 38 of the EPL;

Arsenal vs Everton: Champions League qualification is out of Arsenal’s hands as they head into the final day of the Premier League season. The ‘Gunners’ require Tottenham to slip up at Norwich. The “Toffees” on the other hand secure their playing in the League next season after their wonderful comeback against the Eagles at Goodison’s Park on Thursday night.

Brentford vs Leeds: Leeds United need all maximum point if they want a spot in the English Premier League next season. Brentford came from behind to beat nine-man Everton 3-2 last weekend and they now round off a thoroughly impressive first campaign in the top flight since 1946/47 against a Leeds United side who are in a desperate two-way battle to avoid relegation.

Brighton vs Westham: The Hammers are going out with full force as they’ll be seeking a spot in the Europa League ahead of Manchester united that is if United is beaten by Crystal Place on Sunday. All five of Brighton’s home PL games against London clubs this term produced under 2.5 goals (W1, D3, L1).

Burnley vs Newcastle: This will definitely be a tough one for visitors as Burnley will be fighting to get all points to avoid being relegated. With Newcastle winning their final league game in six of the last seven seasons, history would suggest a top-ten finish is a possibility, but four defeats from their last five PL away games (W1) raises questions about their travelling credentials.

Chelsea vs Watford: The “Blues” have secured their spot in the Champions League for next season. Watford’s relegation has been confirmed so there’s no fight in this fixture but a win for either team will just be an icing on the cake. With Chelsea holding the record for the largest final-day PL win (8-0 vs Wigan), departing manager Roy Hodgson can only hope that Watford avoids ending this disappointing season with their heads held high.

Crystal Palace vs Manchester United: A 3-2 defeat to Everton may have left Crystal Palace feeling blue, but they can still obtain their best PL finish since 2014/15 (10th) by winning on this final matchday. There’s reason to be confident though, as Patrick Vieira’s men are unbeaten in their last seven home games (W4, D3) and only three other sides have conceded fewer PL home goals than Palace’s 17.

Leicester vs Southampton: The improvement in Leicester’s home form as the season has progressed has been notable, as they followed up three defeats across their first six PL home games with ten unbeaten from the last 12. Southampton has already confirmed a fifth consecutive season in the PL’s bottom half after picking up just one of the last 15 available points.

Liverpool vs Wolves: Will Liverpool walk alone? The final matchday sees the “Red” fight for the English Premier League trophy. A slip at the Eithad for Man City will be a great favour for Liverpool. The “Reds”  midweek victory showed their desire to make history, as no PL team has earned more points after conceding first than the Merseysiders’ 17 this term.

Manchester City vs Aston Villa: A win on the road for City will make them EPL Champions for the fourth time in the last five seasons. City’s dominant recent record against opponents Aston Villa should have fans confident too, as each of the previous 11 PL H2H clashes at the Etihad ended in victory for the hosts. The last three in that run came ‘to nil’.

Norwich vs Tottenham: Matchday 38 Dean Smith is encouraging his players to “play with a little bit of freedom” and enjoy their final Premier League (PL) match. A win for the visitors will see them secure a place in the Champions League.

Matchday 38 of the EPL must not be missed by any football lover as it will be filled with a lot of drama. A close of the 2022/2023 season will see the next season kick off on the 6th of August 2022.
