Manchester United have opened talks with Marcus Rashford over a new and improved contract worth up to £150,000-a-week. The 21-year-old has shone since Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s appointment and netted his 10th goal of the season in Sunday’s 1-0 win against Leicester. Rashford’s current deal expires in 2020 and United would almost certainly invoke the clause that extends it by a further year. But the club are keen to get the forward tied down to a longer deal and talks have begun about a new contract.  A new contract will also ward off interest from the continent, with Real Madrid in particular coveting the young forward. Rashford’s goal at the King Power Stadium guided United to within two points of fourth-placed Chelsea after defeating Leicester. His recent performances have been so strong that Jamie Carragher believes he now has an opportunity to make the centre forward role his own at United. Carragher said: ‘Between now and the end of the season, we’ve talked about an audition for Solskjaer. ‘Rashford can make himself Manchester United’s centre-forward – they don’t need to go and buy anyone else, he’s your centre-forward that can take you to a title or a Champions League. ‘The form he’s in at the moment if he continues that then they don’t need to go and buy anyone else in or bring [Romelu] Lukaku back, he can be that man.’ Photo Credit: Getty
