Maradona Blast Sampaoli After Shambolic World Cup Performance

Former Argentina national team coach, Diego Maradona has offered to return to the national team job for free, after the country’s disastrous performance at the 2018 FIFA world cup.

Speaking on his TV show, the Argentine legend said it was painful to see the current state of the national team. He said: “I would return to leading the national team and I would do it for free, I wouldn’t ask for anything in return. Hopefully God will give me the strength to return to the bench. I’m 57, watching my country, which was beaten by a team that isn’t one of the best in the world — it really hurts to see everything that we’ve built destroyed so easily.”

Sampaoli was informed that he will have to quit the team after recording a draw in their match against Iceland, before losing their second group stage tie against Croatia. The Argentine Football Association (AFA) would have to pay a reported $15 million to sack him, due to the fact that he still has four years on his contract.
