The season of mangos will be here, so KOKOBeauties, let’s hint ourselves ahead of what the fibrous tropical fruit can do for us so when it is out, we are getting it and vamping up our beauty routine sharpish.
Mangoes are juicy stone fruit (drupe) produced from numerous species and mainly cultivated for its edible fruit. It is generally sweet and usually has varieties of taste and texture of the flesh across cultivars. Some types of mangoes (Alphonso), usually have a soft, pulpy, juicy texture similar to an overripe plum, while others, such as Tommy Atkins (the one we call Sherry mango in Nigeria), are firmer, like a cantaloupe or avocado, with a fibrous texture.
Surprisingly, mangoes, which are mostly eaten raw can also be cooked and grilled to make a fine delicacy (Heard of mango soup, we’ll bring it to you). It can also be eaten alongside foods and dishes such as rice. Let’s come back to the beauty benefits of this great fruit.
The fruit has some amazing properties that make it essential to a summertime skincare routine. Packed with cleansing astringent juices, mangoes help to clear our pores and are gentle enough for sensitive skin so you can tackle issues like acne and blackheads without unnecessary irritation. It even helps to lessen oil production, which will prevent future blemishes and get rid of unwanted shine throughout the day.
In addition, mangos are loaded with vitamins and nutrients that are essential to having beautiful, healthy-looking skin. Vitamin C helps protect your skin from damaging free radicals and UV rays as well as evening skin tone and brighting a dull complexion. Vitamin A (also known in the beauty world as Retinol) takes on wrinkles and fine lines to give you a smooth, youthful appearance. Potassium and Vitamin E offer deep hydration so your skin gets the moisture it needs, especially in this hot season. Now to the wonders Mango can do for you and how to get the fruit to do the wonders, see below:
