The Mango Wonder! 10 Benefits Of Mango In Your Beauty Routine

The season of mangos will be here, so KOKOBeauties, let’s hint ourselves ahead of what the fibrous tropical fruit can do for us so when it is out, we are getting it and vamping up our beauty routine sharpish.
Mangoes are juicy stone fruit (drupe) produced from numerous species and mainly cultivated for its edible fruit. It is generally sweet and usually has varieties of taste and texture of the flesh across cultivars. Some types of mangoes (Alphonso), usually have a soft, pulpy, juicy texture similar to an overripe plum, while others, such as Tommy Atkins (the one we call Sherry mango in Nigeria), are firmer, like a cantaloupe or avocado, with a fibrous texture.
Surprisingly, mangoes, which are mostly eaten raw can also be cooked and grilled to make a fine delicacy (Heard of mango soup, we’ll bring it to you). It can also be eaten alongside foods and dishes such as rice. Let’s come back to the beauty benefits of this great fruit.
The fruit has some amazing properties that make it essential to a summertime skincare routine. Packed with cleansing astringent juices, mangoes help to clear our pores and are gentle enough for sensitive skin so you can tackle issues like acne and blackheads without unnecessary irritation. It even helps to lessen oil production, which will prevent future blemishes and get rid of unwanted shine throughout the day.
In addition, mangos are loaded with vitamins and nutrients that are essential to having beautiful, healthy-looking skin. Vitamin C helps protect your skin from damaging free radicals and UV rays as well as evening skin tone and brighting a dull complexion. Vitamin A (also known in the beauty world as Retinol) takes on wrinkles and fine lines to give you a smooth, youthful appearance. 1. The Mango Glow: Mangoes have natural properties and vitamins that fight against unhealthy and scrappy skin. It leaves the skin healthy, giving you the glow you need. The banana mango face mask is one of the homemade beauty combos you can gift yourself to get glowing. Blend mango, banana and 2 tablespoons of milk together in a blender for a medium creamy combination. Scoop out the blended ingredients and add in a spoon each of honey and cocoa powder, then mix together nicely. Apply on the skin for 15minutes and rinse off with cold water regularly and get the mango glow! For a dull skin, mix 1 tablespoon of mango pulp with 2 tablespoons of wheat flour and 1 teaspoon of organic honey. Mix well to form a paste and apply all over face evenly. Let stay for 15 minutes and then wash off. Another solution is mango plus cucumber. Blend 1 full spoon of mango flesh so well to get a pulp of smooth consistency. Then mix 1 full spoon of cucumber juice or tomato juice (you can also use aloe vera, it is very good for skin glow) and apply on the skin. Wash off after 20 minutes and feel fresh.

 

2. Acne/Pimples Removal: Mango pulp, curd (fresh wara) and honey can be a great aid in fighting pigmentation and acne. The combination will help to shed off excessive oil from your skin and take away all the acnes that have broken out or might want to break out later. Extract pulp from a ripe mango, mix with 2 teaspoons of curd and honey and apply generously on the affected parts. Wash off after 15 minutes and repeat process regularly for results. You can also apply the pulp of the mango to your skin can to clear the pores and prevent/remove blackheads and pimples. Use mashed pulp and form a texture you can leave on your face for five to ten minutes. Then wash off and pat your skin dry.

3. Exfoliation:
Using a mango scrub is so much useful for removing dead skin cells. All you need is 1 tablespoon of the pulp, 1 teaspoon of organic honey and 1 tablespoon of milk. Mix these ingredients well and apply it on your face. Leave it for 10 minutes. Rinse it off with cold water and feel the softness in your skin’s texture. You may also combine mango pulp with Oats and apply the well mixed ingredients on the skin in circular motion. Leave for 10 to 15 minutes to penetrate deeply into the skin and wash off after first with warm water, then with cold water to close up the pores. Ensure you do a facial steaming before applying the face mask to open up pores and allow the mango face mask to sink deep.
4. Sunburn/Tanned Skin: Mix a tablespoon of the fruit’s pulp, 2 teaspoons of wheat flour and 1 teaspoon of organic honey together to make a thick paste. Apply the mask on face and sun-affected parts. Let it stay on for 15 minutes and wash with normal water. For tanned skin, mix 1 tablespoon of the pulp, 2 tablespoon of besan, 2 teaspoons of grounded almonds and 1 teaspoon of honey together to make a thick paste, and apply it all over the affected parts. Leave for 15 minutes then rinse it off with cold water. Repeat this three times a week for better results.
5. Hydration:  Mix 1 tablespoon of mango pulp and 1 teaspoon each of  honey and yogurt well and apply the mango face mask onto your clean skin in a circular motion with clean fingertips. Let the mask sit on for 10 to 15 minutes to dry completely and when it does, remove it with a warm washcloth. Rinse off thereafter with cold water and pat dry with a soft towel.
6. Tough Skin: Having a tough skin can be annoying and saddening but not to worry, mango can come to the rescue, if you want it to. All you need is 2 tablespoon of mango pulp, 1 tablespoon of oats, 2 teaspoon raw milk and 3-4 grounded almonds. Apply the pack on your skin and scrub it off after 15 minutes. Wash the skin with water and ensure you repeat this routine three times a week and continuously till you get the desired effect.

7. Skin Discolouration: Mix 2 tablespoons of the fruit’s pulp with 1/2 teaspoons each of Cinnamon and Nutmeg powders. First clean your skin surface with a gentle cleanser, pat dry and apply the mask. Let it sit for 20 minutes and dry off totally before washing with cold water.
Bonus: if you will like to lighten your skin the natural way, Mangoes can be of help too. Simply make a face mask of 3 tablespoons of fresh mango pulp, 1 tablespoon of raw milk, a half tablespoon of pure honey and a a pinch of turmeric. Apply paste gently and richly over the skin and wash it after 25 minutes. Repeat regularly for effect.
