Cristiano Ronaldo will wear the No.7 shirt at Manchester United after his transfer from Juventus was made official.
It was announced on Friday afternoon last week that United had struck a deal with Juventus for Ronaldo’s sensational homecoming and the transfer to bring the five-time Ballon d’Or winner on a two-year contract was made completed on deadline day.
The 36-year-old is set to stay in Manchester until 2023, although the contract does have the option of a third year.
Ronaldo famously wore number seven – which was also worn by George Best, Eric Cantona and David Beckham at the club – when he previously played for United, but Edinson Cavani had held the privilege of wearing that iconic shirt at Old Trafford .
United were hopeful that Ronaldo could wear the number seven shirt again, despite the Premier League’s rules which state players should retain the number which they’ve been originally allocated throughout the entire season.

His much-anticipated return to United was completed on Tuesday morning and he’ll be in contention to make his second debut for the Reds after the international break, which will be against Newcastle at home on Saturday, September 11.
