Manchester City Knock Borussia Dortmund Out Of Champions League, Set Up Semi-final Showdown With PSG

Manchester City have booked their place in the Champions League semi-finals after a 4-2 aggregate win over Borussia Dortmund.


With City leading the tie 2-1 after the first leg, Jude Bellingham sparked the tie into life with his wonderful first-half opener that briefly left Pep Guardiola on the brink of yet another quarter-final exit.

A penalty converted by Rihad Mahrez however got his side back on track, however, smashing home from the penalty spot.

Phil Foden added gloss to a dominant second-half performance, lashing home from the edge of the box. City will meet Paris Saint-Germain in their semi-final clash.

Bellingham broke the deadlock on the night after 15 minutes with another moment of magic from the 17-year-old. Erling Haaland was typically involved, stretching the City defence with his run down the inside left channel having got in behind John Stones.

With the Norwegian diligently sliding across goal looking for a teammate, the former Birmingham City youngster reacted quickest inside the box, controlling brilliantly before curling a superb effort past Ederson to become the youngest English goal scorer in the Champions League.

Having given his side the lead, Bellingham was involved at other end of the pitch, getting back to keep Mahrez’s effort out with a goal line clearance after some sublime work from Foden.


Kevin de Bruyne was denied by the cross bar as City were frustrated in the first-half, but Dortmund’s resistance was broken six minutes into the second period.

Emre Can headed clearance came off the former Liverpool midfielder’s arm with the referee pointing to the spot after a lengthy VAR check.

Mahrez made no mistake from 12 yards, easing the pressure on the visitors.

De Bruyne was once again denied as City pushed on, beating three men only to see his effort pushed wide by Marwin Hitz.

Foden however made up for it moments later, hitting a vicious effort on goal from the resulting corner that passed straight through the hands of the Dortmund goalkeeper, sparking jubilant celebrations on the City bench.

City threatened to add more as the cruised through the remainder of the contest, with an unprecedented quadruple still on.
