Man Who Slapped President Macron Bags Jail Term

The man who slapped the President of France, Mr Emmanuel Macron across the face has been arrested, arraigned before a French court and bagged a jail sentence of 18 months, 14 of which were suspended.
Recall that KOKO TV reported that a man in the crowd of whom Macron was waving at and greeting had spontaneously reached out for the President like he wanted to touch him but in the stead drew him closed and landed a slap across his face on Tuesday.Man Who Slapped President Macron Bags Jail TermThe young man identified as 28-year-old unemployed medieval history enthusiast named Damien Tarel, has been in custody since the assault took place, after which he was arraigned before a court where he said he acted instinctively and without thinking. As reported by BFM news channel, Damien revealed that he had been waiting for President Macron outside a school in the village of Tain-l’Hermitage.

He reportedly sympathy for the anti-government yellow vest movement, stating that he and two friends had considered throwing an egg or a cream pie at the head of state during his visit to the Drome region. According to him, “Macron represents the decline of our country”. Damien reportedly further said he had been annoyed by President Macron’s decision to come to greet him, describing it as an electoral tactic that he didn’t appreciate.
Speaking at a Valence court, prosecutor Alex Perrin described Daniel’s act as absolutely unacceptable and an act of deliberate violence, and then called for an 18-month prison term.
Meanwhile, in an interview with BFM today Thursday, President Macron had shrugged off the assault, calling it an isolated event and a stupid, violent act, suggesting it was a consequence of the poisonous atmosphere found on social media.

Vowing to continue meeting voters despite concerns for his personal security, Macron, 43, blamed his act on social media, noting that people usually get used to hatred on social media so much that it becomes normalised and when they come face-to-face with the person, the think it is the same. “You get used to the hatred on social media that becomes normalised and then when you’re face-to-face with someone, you think it’s the same thing.
