Newcastle vs Watford (16:00): Newcastle United have moved quickly in the winter transfer window, signing experienced names such as Kieran Trippier and Chris Wood. Yet last weekend’s embarrassing 1-0 FA Cup home defeat to lower league Cambridge United was a reminder that there’s still big flaws in this squad. Hornets head to the North East on the back of six straight PL defeats, and a seventh would see them leapfrogged by Newcastle and sucked into the relegation zone.

Norwich vs Everton (16:00): Norwich City’s midweek 2-0 defeat to West Ham saw their Premier League (PL) winless run stretched to eight matches (D2, L6). ‘Toffees’ fans witnessed a league away win (D2, L5 since) although a point at Chelsea before Christmas was a creditable result for under pressure boss Rafa Benítez, who had to watch on as a ‘Benítez get out of our club’ banner was unfurled by some fans in last weekend’s cup clash.

Wolves vs Southampton (16:00): Wolverhampton Wanderers remain in contention for a European finish and they’ll feel confident of moving one step closer to that goal if they can record a fifth straight unbeaten outing in this matchup (W3, D1). The ‘Saints’ backline have been more like sinners on their travels though, evidenced by conceding at least twice in 13 of their last 15 PL away games.

Aston Villa vs Manchester Utd (18:30): Villa has an immediate chance to gain revenge on United after Monday’s contentious 1-0 FA Cup defeat at Old Trafford in which they had two goals disallowed.Manchester United’s results – if not their performances – are doing the talking. With one defeat in ten competitive matches (W6, D3), they’re well placed to not only push for European qualification but to extend their run of not losing a PL H2H here since 1995 (W15, D7)! Another victory in this clash would also see the visitors make history by becoming the first PL side to win 300 away matches.

Prediction: 2-3

Fixtures and predictions for Sunday 16th January 2021.

Liverpool vs Brentford (15:00): Reds title hopes have dwindled massively, as a return of no wins in their last three Premier League (PL) matches (D2, L1) has left Jürgen Klopp’s men needing to make up a double-digit gap on league leaders Manchester City. Liverpool have only lost one of the last 17 matches when hosting a team at Anfield for the first time in the PL (W11, D5).

Prediction: 2-1

Westham vs Leeds United (15:00): Hammer’s manager David Moyes expressed about fixture congestion seem to be misplaced, as his side have made a perfect start to 2022 (W3). Leeds face consecutive trips to the London Stadium after falling to a 2-0 defeat here last time out in a disappointing FA Cup exit. As well as revenge, Leeds seek their first set of back-to-back league wins this term, following a confidence-boosting 3-1 win over Burnley in their last league outing.
