Liverpool Footballer Mohamed Salah Beats Sadio Mane And Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang To Win 2017 African Player Of The Year

Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah has been crowned the CAF African Player of the Year for 2017. Salah, 25, polled 625 points from a voting panel made up of national team coaches and captains, plus a selection of officials and journalists.The Confederation of African Football announced Salah as the clear winner of the award at its glitzy gala dinner on Thursday night with club team-mate and Senegal international Sadio Mane and Gabon’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang coming second and third respectively.The Egypt forward scored the goal that secured his country a place at this year’s World Cup, while he has been in superb form since signing for the Reds. Salah has scored 23 goals for Liverpool already this season following his summer move from Roma and is the second top scorer in the Premier League behind Harry Kane.Salah joins a long list of stars who have won the prestigious award, including Didier Drogba, George Weah, Roger Milla and Yaya Toure. He also becomes the the second Egyptian to win the gong after Mahmoud Al Khatib in 1983.‘This is a dream come true for me. 2017 was an unbelievable year with the Egypt national team and my clubs,’ Salah said at the Confederation of African Football awards. ‘To qualify to the World Cup after 28 years and to have a great season at Roma and Liverpool were special moments in my career.’Photo Credit: Getty
