Romelu Lukaku has equalled Brazilian legend Ronaldo’s scoring record when he scored his ninth goal from his first 11 Serie A games for Inter Milan.
The ex-Manchester United striker notched his eighth and ninth goals of the season as Inter came from behind to win 2-1 at Bologna on Saturday.
Ronaldo’s goalscoring record has stood since 1997/98 and the Belgian equalled it with a tap in and a late penalty to keep Inter second in the league. Lukaku became the first Inter player to score nine in their first 11 Serie A games since the famous Brazilian.
And he has performed admirably since the move to Italy despite getting caught up in a racism storm. Footballing icon Ronaldo finished the 97/98 season with 25 goals which would be a remarkable turnaround forLukaku who struggled so much at Old Trafford.
United let the 26-year-old go in a £73million deal in the summer and failed to replace him with a recognised striker. Marcus Rashford has been playing up front and has managed just three goals in nine games since his opening day brace against Chelsea. United sit tenth in the Premier League and crashed to another defeat on Saturday – a 1-0 loss at Bournemouth. The Red Devils signed Lukaku in 2017 and snubbed Arsenal star Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in the process, according to reports.
