Liverpool’s newly signed midfielder, Thiago Alcantara has tested positive for Coronavirus and has gone into self-isolation according to the club.
The 29-year-old ex-Barcelona midfielder joined Liverpool from Bayern Munich after helping the German champions dominated and win the Uefa Champions League. He made his EPL debut in Liverpool’s premier league 2-0 win against Chelsea.
He was a surprise absentee in Liverpool’s game on Monday night against Arsenal which Liverpool went on to win 3-1. His omission from the starting 11 and the matchday in totality sparked question until the club announced that he had tested positive for Coronavirus.
In a statement released on the club’s official Twitter account, it was confirmed that:
“Thiago Alcantara has tested positive for COVID-19 and is currently self-isolating according to the necessary guidelines.”
“The 29-year-old, who missed Monday’s match against Arsenal, has exhibited minor symptoms of the virus but is in good health and is getting better.”
“The club has, and will continue to follow, all protocols relating to COVID-19 and Thiago will remain in self-isolation for the required period of time.”
