Media reports indicates that scan results showed no significant damage done to Lionel Messi’s nose following his recent injury.
Messi collided with Chris Smalling during Manchester United’s defeat to Barcelona on Wednesday night. The superstar was left with blood pouring from his nose and there were fears after the game Messi might be sidelined with a fractured nose. Messi underwent scans on Thursday afternoon to determine the extent of the injury and Spanish radio Catradio Esports claim the Argentina international will be fit for the weekend. Barcelona take on La Liga’s bottom side Huesca and Messi will be available for selection.
Barring any more injury concerns on Saturday, Messi will be fit to face United in the second leg of Barcelona’s Champions League quarter-final clash with the Red Devils. The nasal issue visibly affected Messi during Barcelona’s victory at Old Trafford, but the Catalan giants still managed to come away with a 1-0 win.
It means Barcelona are in the driving seat for the second leg at the Camp Nou and United must score at least twice in Spain to progress. Messi produced a rare indifferent performance in the first leg, but he did play a crucial role in Luke Shaw’s own goal which separates the side’s ahead of next week’s return match.Photo Credit: Getty
