Rapper Lil Nas X is launching a new line of sneakers with New York-based art collective MSCHF for Satan shoes. The shoes which are customized Nike Air Max ’97s contain a drop of human blood per pair.
Only 666 pairs, which are individually numbered and have Luke 10:18 on the sides, will be available for $1,018 beginning Monday. An MSCHF spokesperson said the blood had been provided by members of the art collective, adding: “We love to sacrifice for our art.” The shoes sparked outrage online over the weekend and attracted criticism from a number of high-profile political and religious figures, including South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem and the evangelical pastor Mark Burns.
The governor described the sneakers in a tweet as “evil” and “heresy.” Some fans of the “Old Town Road” rapper, meanwhile, tweeted their support and desire to own a pair. The rapper shared that the sneakers are super cool and people need to leave the bias aside.
