Lifestyle: How To Stay Fit During A Vacation

Every one looks forward to a vacation, no matter how short it is. Just the thought of waking up without the alarm, having three square meals daily, getting a massage, getting a manicure and pedicure, getting a facial, taking a bubble bath, ordering room service, watching movies, grabbing that book you’ve been wanting to start, having a bowl of ice cream in front of your favourite television program and having some good old yummy chicken wings with friends and just chatting away (phew!….can I go on?), makes anyone eager for a holiday.
But then, its all over and there lies the problem of excessive “weight gain”. During vacations, it is only normal for daily exercise routines and diet plans to be forgotten especially if the place you are travelling to doesn’t have the equipment you usually use for your work out. Sometimes, routines are ignored because its only fair to assume the whole point of a vacation is for relaxation and fun.
Below are five simple steps on how you can have as much fun and also keep fit during a vacation.
Do Your Research
Find out if the hotel you would be lodging in has a gym, pool, lawn tennis court or an agreement with a nearby health club. Also you could search online to find out how close you are to nearby parks with trails or stairs. Also check customers feedbacks on the nature and structure the gym centre.
Pack Right And Light
You might check out the hotel’s accommodation but that might just not be enough. So it would be wise to take along personal gym tools that would not weigh much. A resistance gym band and a jump rope to include cardio. The hotel room furnitures can also be utilized to reduce excess baggage. Your hotel room chair can easily be used for triceps dips and a closed door is the perfect place to secure your resistance cables.
Take The Opportunity To Explore
Staying indoors for up to six weeks would definitely not help you, since you would be adding up. So put on your sneakers, get outside, and walk. Explore all you can, this would give you a cardio boost and make sure you do this on your feet. Aim for around 10,000 steps throughout the day to burn roughly 400 calories.
Take Advantage Of Nature
Embrace your surroundings. If you are on an island or beach holiday, head to the water for your workouts. In the countryside or even in a city that has amazing parks, head out and explore by hiking, biking or even look at horse riding for a more adventurous twist. Try surfing, stand-up paddle boarding, snorkelling, windsurfing or kite surfing to get some fresh air and wake up some muscles you may never have known you had.
Download Workout Videos And Articles
Videos are great inspirations for workouts, especially when done with friends. So make friends with other tourists who share your ideas and get busy burning some calories. My recommendation is that you download Women’s Health & Fitness magazine app on your device. Also for relaxation and meditation, download yoga videos or apps that have a variety of exercises.
