Lifestyle: Getting A Nail Infection During A Manicure Is Easier Than You Think

Keeping our hands neat and tidy should be part of our beauty regimen but there are times a manicure can go wrong. Many of us are not even aware of the dangers lurking when we visit nail salons. Getting a nail infection due to ignorance is something that can be avoided and this is the reason we have come up with feature. 
If you get a manicure or pedicure at a nail salon, be sure to ask how the staff disinfects their tools and how often they do it. Tools, such as emery boards and nail clippers, can spread fungal infections from person-to-person if they’re not sanitized. Although there are risks factors to contacting a nail infection such as age, fixing of artificial nails, weakened immune system, one can never be too carefu e.t.c.

The most common signs of a nail infection are; a distorted nail that may lift off from the nail bed, an odour coming from the infected nail or a brittle or thickened nail. Because other infections can affect the nail and mimic symptoms of fungal nail infection, the only way to confirm a diagnosis is to see a doctor.
They will take a scraping of the nail and look under a microscope for signs of a fungus. In some cases, your doctor may have to send the sample to a lab for analysis and identification. One of the easiest ways to prevent a nail infection is to keep your nail trim and neat others include using antifungal sprays or powders regularly, washing your hands after touching infected nails, drying your feet well after showering, especially between your toes, getting manicures or pedicures from trustworthy salons, using your own items for manicures or pedicures, avoiding being barefoot in public places and reducing your use of artificial nails and nail polish.
