Lawyers Fight Over Bags At NBA Conference, Destroys Venue

Some Nigerians Lawyers and delegates went on a rampage last night at the Eko Atlantic city, venue of the ongoing Nigeria Bar Association Annual General Conference NBA-AGC, over the distribution of Conference bags and materials.

According to reports, the lawyers had gathered to collect conference bags which had hindered them from collecting other conference materials.

The lawyers became impatient over the slow pace at which they were being attended to. Some of them forcefully reached out to get the bags containing the conference materials and this led to chaos that saw the registration booths being destroyed.

Meanwhile, the NBA President, Mr. Olumide Akpata has berated conferees who invaded the Accreditation Centre to cart away conference bags and other items.

Akpata, who was delivering an apology for his lateness to the President’s Dinner organized as one of the highlights of the ongoing NBA Annual General Conference, said that he was held up by the chaos that broke out over delivery of conference bags.

There are reports that the vehicle conveying the conference bags arrived at the Accreditation Centre the organizers were not able to control the crowd as the conference were blocking the access route to be used by the vehicle to deliver the bags.

He noted that the Technical Committee on Conference Planning (TCCP) had explained that it insisted on top quality bags for the conferees, leading to its rejection of the low quality bags supplied by the vendor. He wondered why the conferees would not exercise patience, more so when the quality bags had been supplied.

Fiery human rights activist and former Chairman of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), Prof. Chidi Odinkalu had lampooned some conferees who staged a protest earlier on the same issue.
