President Buhari’s aide on Social Media and his nominee as INEC Commissioner, Mrs Lauretta Onochie has been in the news all day, no thanks to new evidences which accuse her of lying under an oath.
Following Onochie’s nominatiopn by the President in October 2020, many, including KOKO’s 2020 Woman Of The Year, Aisha Yesufu, opposed the nomination on the grounds that Onochie is now worthy of the position, is a partisan and a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC). Lauretta Onochie, however, declared herself a non-partisan, which has only earned her more trouble. When she appeared before the Senate Committee on INEC which screened her for the position of national commissioner for the electoral umpire on Thursday, the President’s aide said she is not a member of the APC.
Following the bashings online, an old tweet was dug up, indicating that Lauretta Onochie, supported and promoted the All Progressives Congress in 2020, contrary to her claim that she quitted partisan politics in 2019.
The Chairman, Steering Committee of the Centre for Transparency Advocacy (CTA), Dr Chima Amadi while addressing journalists in Abuja said Mrs Lauretta lied on oath when she claimed that she is no longer into partisan politics during her screening at the Senate Committee on the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC. Calling for her arrest, saying such action should not be without consequences, Amadi also asked President Buhari to withdraw her nomination, saying INEC is too critical to be subjected to such partisan nomination. According to him, her footprints of partisanship are all over the digital space and her nomination brings credibility issue to the Commission.
