Lassa Fever Returns To Nigeria And Claims First Victim

The battle of Lassa fever which we thought had been won, has silently creeped into the nation once again. As confirmed by Kuden Deyin, the Plateau State Commissioner for Health, reports the death of one student and hospitalization of two others, following an outbreak of Lassa Fever at the Federal Government College, FGC, Langtang.He said: “Yes, there was an outbreak of Lassa Fever at the Federal Government College, Langtang; it has claimed one life while two others are in the hospital,” Kuden disclosed yesterday in Langtang.He said four students were rushed from the school clinic to the Jos University Teaching Hospital, JUTH. According to him, “the students displayed symptoms of Lassa Fever and we immediately took their blood samples to the Lagos University Teaching Hospital, where three tested positive to the disease.The Commissioner further advised families with children in the school to observe them and report any symptom of the fever to JUTH, Plateau Specialist Hospital or the Bingham University Teaching Hospital.
