Lagos State Government has franchised COVID-19 testing to private labs as many are unable to get tested in government owned facilities, however, will cost Lagos resident about 50,400 Nigerian naira.
The State Commissioner for Health, Professor Akin Abayomi, while launching the Lagos State Private-Public Consortium noted that the permission for private laboratories is necessary so as to increase the capacity of the state government in the management of the pandemic.
He noted that though the tests were being conducted in government owned laboratories free, the approved private laboratories will charge a cost of between N40,000 and N50,400. Read also: We Are Looking For 2,683 COVID-19 Patients – Lagos Health Commissioner
“At the event, @Drbamidelemutiu the Director of @LagosBiobank made it known that the accredited laboratories have the equipment and requisite expertise to test for #COVID19 within the parameters of the #COVID19Lagos testing strategy hence their inclusion. To wrap up the event, representatives of each of the 7 accredited private laboratories signed a memorandum of understanding with @LSMOH“, he said on Twitter.
