The frequent damage of Lagos roads has been blamed on the road users as the State Government pointed excessive loads and petroleum products as the tools used.
In a report shared on the State’s official Twitter page, it was noted that the articulated vehicles such as containers and tankers which are often loaded heavy are common on Lagos roads.Lagos Road Users Are The Cause Of Frequent Damage Of Roads
Through imposition of excessive loads that roads are not designed for, distressed portions along roads that service loading and discharging point like Sea ports, Industrial Estates , etc are common sites. The situation becomes worse, where imposing excess axle load on roads that are originally designed as feeder/access/estate roads. This is very common with articulated vehicles such as containers and tankers which are often seen on the street with heavy load.”

“Petroleum products have devastating effect on Bitumen and this accounts for why Asphalt will disintegrate when in contact with products like Diesel and Kerosene among others. The Diesel/ petrol dripping on the road from heavy duty vehicles eventually breaks up the Asphalt surface and potholes and ditches are thus created“, the picture text reads.
